From 10 to 14 October 2022, numerous journalists, influencers and industry professionals joined an international press tour that explored the mountains of Lessinia, passing through Soave, to reach Santorini.

The central theme for this press tour was volcanic terroirs: soils rich in microelements that ancient volcanoes spewed on the Earth’s surface. These volcanic terroirs came together for the Heva – Volcanic Agriculture of Europe project, yielding outstanding agri-food products marked by a Protected Designation of Origin.
The press tour involved dozens of journalists, specialized media and influencers, allowing them to touch (and taste) the iconic Monte Veronese cheese from Lessinia; the wines from the Lessini Durello and Soave denominations; as well as the PDO products of Santorini. Aside from being PDO products protected by the European Union, they are also promoted by their respective Consortia, which actively participate in the Heva project: Consorzio Tutela Vini Soave e Recioto di Soave, Consorzio di Tutela Vini Lessini Durello, Union of Santorini Cooperatives – Santo Wines and Consorzio per la Tutela del Formaggio Monte Veronese.
“Discovering the volcanic Agriculture of Europe” press tour has been an intensive 5-day tour. The first three days, from 10 to 12 October, were held in Italy, in the Lessini Mountains in Veneto and on the hills of the Soave and Lessini Durello denominations. For the last leg of the tour, from 13 to 14 October, participants flew to Santorini where they visited local archaeological sites, tried their hand at traditional vine training techniques and tasted the island’s PDO wines.
Discovering the volcanic Agriculture of Europe is part of a series of events organized by Heva and dedicated to industry professionals to promote and enhance the distinctive features of products originating from volcanic terroirs and marked with designated EU protection labels.
