Established in 1988, the Consorzio di Tutela Vini Lessini Durello started from a small group of producers set up to protect, safeguard and promote the Lessini Durello denomination, which obtained the DOC recognition in 1987.
Since then, the Consortium has been involved in promoting the wines produced on the hilly arch and in the high valleys that extend north of the provinces of Verona and Vicenza. In the area of Verona, the territory includes the upper Illasi Valley, the Tramigna Valley and the northernmost municipalities of the Alpone Valley; whereas in the area of Vicenza, the valleys of Chiampo, Leogra and Agno define the boundaries of the denomination.
With soils of volcanic origin, the hills of Lessini Durello are largely dedicated to the cultivation of the Durella, a variety that is particularly apt for the production of sparkling wine: more than 90% of the total production is represented by Lessini Durello sparkling wine, which can be made using the Charmat method or the traditional method.
