The new year looks set to offer a full schedule of events for Heva – “Heroes of Europe: Volcanic Agriculture”. This Italian-Greek project for the promotion and enhancement of volcanic products, funded by the European Union within the framework of Regulation no. 1144 and relaunched in 2022 after an interruption dictated by the health emergency, sees the collaboration of the Italian Wine Producers Associations of Soave and Lessini Durello, the Greek Association Union of Santorini Cooperatives – Santo Wines, and the Veneto Association of Monte Veronese cheese.
In early 2023, Heva will be taking part in some of the leading food and wine fairs in Europe, moving from Greece to Germany, Spain and Sweden, and then back to Italy. Indeed, one of the founding activities of the entire project is participation in events open to consumers and industry operators.
At the beginning of the season, from 4 to 6 March, Heva will be featuring at Athens’ Oenorama, one of the most famous wine fairs in Greece, which this year is celebrating its 30th anniversary.
From the Greek capital, Heva will then move to Düsseldorf, where it will participate in the 28th ProWein, the international fair dedicated to wine and spirits, which will open its doors to the public on 19 March. On Monday 20 March, at Hall 1, Stand A40, the European project, represented by the Soave and Lessini Durello associations (Hall 15, Stand F05) and by Santo Wines (Hall 17, Stand H14), will star in a masterclass entitled “HEVA – Heroes of Europe Volcanic Agriculture – Vulkanweine im Vergleich” (A comparison of volcanic wines), held in collaboration with the Swiss publication Vinum.
“Participation in ProWein,” says the President of the Soave Association, Sandro Gini, “represents a unique opportunity to promote some of Italy’s and Greece’s best volcanic wines paired with Monte Veronese cheese, and to raise awareness on the soil, history and people representing some of the most historic and interesting protected designations of origin in Europe.”
In the month of May, the Monte Veronese association will then be representing Heva at TuttoFood. Held from 8 to 11 May at Rho Fiera Milano, this B2B fair sets out to be a point of reference for agri-food operators. The aim of the event is to look to the future, developing innovation in line with consumer trends and market dynamics. As Alfonso Albi, President of the Association, points out, “participation in events of this kind and scope offers a great opportunity to contribute yet further to the promotion of this cheese from Verona’s mountainous region, paired exclusively with volcanic white wines, and to promote the volcanic environment, the fertility of the land and our pastures, the generosity of the soil, and man’s ability to cultivate in the pursuit of respect and innovation within the framework of a landscape and a food and wine heritage of great value”.
The first months of 2023 will also see Heva taking part in dedicated masterclasses, organised in leading European cities such as Madrid (8 March) and the Swedish cities of Umeå, Gothenburg and Malmö (25, 26, 27 April). These events form part of a communal effort to bring the distinctive features of these volcanic products, marked by the European Union’s protected origin labels, to the attention of a wider public.
